the history of Barony Castle
Originally known as Darnhall, Barony Castle stands in the heart of Tweeddale, west of Eddleston village. The site was first occupied by a fortified peel tower in the early 15th century, built to defend against border raids. In 1536, the tower was replaced by a Scots baronial house, marking the beginning of the castle we know today.
